  • Things falling into place

Mrs. Haney called to say that she was approved for the equity loan, so her down payment will be available next Thursday. Now, she is applying for the balance of the mortgage. We trust that will also go smoothly.

I got on the Georgia Home School Association website and started looking for home school support groups. one looked particularly interesting: it seems to be a teen adventure group. I called the contact number and established instant rapport. I put the woman on speaker phone, so Micah got to listen in  as well. He is sold. It sounds like a terrific group. These groups also tend to be a way to tap in communities in other areas as well. So Micah asked if there were Venture troops. Celeste did not know of any, but I am sure she will ask around. One of the moms in the group also does a food co-op. Yay! I am afraid I am spoiled by co-ops. I don't like to pay retail on my bulk foods. Now, I just need to find someone with goat milk and/or a community garden.

The paperwork finally came in on the Yaris, so we got plates on it today as well.

I got the top shelves of the school bookcases packed into boxes. I am trying to keep the books ordered by topic, so it will be easier to unpack the library. Of course, there are a few stragglers that don't fit in the box, but they will be easy enough to deal with.

Joe found out that he actually has 21 vacation/personal days left for this year (2007). He plans to take two or three days for Easter. Going back, he will pack the Yaris full of boxes (sorry Micah, you know it really is not your car). He will probably take two or three days for Honnah's wedding. for the move, he plans to take personal days. He commented that he has not been sick. Let's keep it that way. After all that, he will still have  plenty  of time off for our 25th wedding anniversary trip. We still need to work out details on that. Whew! What a packed year!

On a completely different subject, Bernadette's little house burnt to the ground last Friday. Fortunately, she was in Mount Vernon at the time, but she lost everything except the few things she had brought with her. She had packed all her stuff and put it in the shed between the well house and the trailer she was living in. So all her keepsakes -- pictures, the kids' letters and artwork, all her important papers -- are gone. Jose looked at it on Sunday. He told Honnah that I did not need to see it. In spite of that, Micah and I went up to her place yesterday to see what it looked like. Micah commented that it looked like something exploded. All the structure for the trailer was gone, so the aluminum sides of it were laying around, like a peeled banana. The well house was destroyed except the metal walls, and the metal of the appliances inside. There was mostly a pile of ashes where the shed had been. Bernadette's mother bought the place for Bernadette and was renting it to her. She may have cancelled the insurance on it when Bernadette was going to move to Arizona. They are setting up a trust fund for Bernadette at the Bank of Lamar.

The fire chief told Bernadette that it is so dry that they have had all sorts of freaky fires. All it takes is a piece of broken glass, lying on top of a leaf. The sun shining through the glass could heat up the leaf enough to catch it on fire. Then it all goes up faster than you can imagine. We are so thankful the Bernadette was not there. she said that if she did manage to get out in time, it would have been so hard watching is all be destroyed. But in all this, she said not one word about 'exposure' to the smoke. That certainly would have been serious, but the significance of the lack of comment is that a few months ago, that would have been her first worry. I have seen her worry herself sick at just the thought of smoke, regardless of the amount. God has truly brought a terrific amount of healing to this woman.

Stephanie moved from the rehab hospital yesterday. They found a nursing home in Nevada (in Missouri, that is pronounced nuh-VAY-duh) that has facilities for Traumatic Brain Injured persons. Nevada is about an hour from Joplin, so she is still close enough for her children to see her from time to time. Please keep that situation in your prayers. There is a lot of confusion about what is to be done with the youngsters.

Stephanie had a very difficult time prior to the move. She had several nightmares. At one point, she reported that she dreamed she had moved and nobody loved her. She has been at the rehab hospital for three months, and it seems that is most of what she remembers. The doctors and therapists agreed to let Bernadette ride up with Stephanie to help her settle in.

Bernadette was to stay with her friend Dixie in Oronogo overnight, then go apartment hunting in nevada today. I have not been able to get through to Bernadette's phone, so I have no idea how that went.
